Unit Manager – Neonatal ICU (Specialized)

About the role

A vacancy exists for a Unit Manager of the Specialized Neonatal ICU at Life Springs Parkland Hospital in Johannesburg. The manager will lead clinical practice, coordinate resources and staff, and ensure the unit meets the hospital’s quality, growth and people objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective clinical leadership and implement nursing care plans across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure competence of staff and students, drive professional socialisation and create a learning environment.
• Conduct quality care rounds, clinical audits and address customer (patient/family) complaints.
• Implement national quality initiatives, identify clinical and safety risks, and apply corrective actions.
• Develop and communicate best operating practices and support hospital marketing initiatives.
• Demonstrate visible leadership aligned with LHC values, sponsor initiatives and manage all people‑related processes.
• Participate in business planning, budgeting and manage nursing costs within the allocated budget.
• Oversee stock utilisation, equipment training and ensure all equipment is operational and safe.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including doctors, patients, families and service providers.

Required profile

• Proven experience in nursing management, preferably within a neonatal intensive care setting.
• Strong leadership aligned with organisational values and ability to sponsor projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Capability to drive people processes, training and professional development.
• Financial acumen to manage budgets, costs and equipment resources.
