Unit Manager (I) – Theatre

About the role

The Unit Manager (I) – Theatre at Netcare Lakeview Hospital will lead the nursing team to deliver safe, high‑quality patient care. Reporting to senior management, you will ensure compliance with professional, ethical and regulatory standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Manage staffing acuities and skill mix to provide cost‑effective, high‑quality care.
• Oversee departmental budgets, billing, stock management and purchasing.
• Identify and implement quality‑improvement initiatives and monitor their outcomes.
• Investigate negative incidents, capture data in the Incident Management System (IMS) and report to safety representatives.
• Ensure compliance with the Machine and Occupational Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
• Maintain equipment, control the asset register and guarantee all assets are operational.
• Coordinate capacity‑building, mentoring and training programmes for nursing staff.

Required profile

• Proven experience in coordinating nursing care within a multidisciplinary quality‑assurance team.
• Strong understanding of professional and ethical nursing standards.
• Ability to lead capacity‑building, mentoring and training initiatives.
• Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and regulatory compliance.

Required skills

• Financial management and budgeting in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of healthcare quality and governance frameworks.
• Risk management and incident investigation skills.
• Familiarity with stock management and procurement processes.
