Underwriting Manager – Construction Guarantees

About the role

The Underwriting Manager will lead the underwriting of large and complex guarantee transactions for the Construction and Energy Guarantees division. This senior position reports to senior management and sits on the underwriting risk committee, driving portfolio growth and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite large, complex construction, corporate and renewable‑energy guarantee transactions.
• Prepare detailed underwriting reports, proposals and legal documentation.
• Conduct due‑diligence, credit risk assessment and financial modelling for project deals.
• Manage the corporate portfolio of existing clients and nurture relationships with brokers, banks, developers and infrastructure financiers.
• Lead and mentor the guarantees team, overseeing portfolio managers and underwriters.
• Identify growth opportunities to meet the division’s strategic targets.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree (BCom, BScEng, QS, LLB or similar) and postgraduate qualification (MBA, MCom, MSc) or progressing towards it.
• Certificate in Banking/Short‑Term Insurance, RE5 Representative Certificate and FAIS compliance, or in progress.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in guarantees, trade banking or reinsurance.
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure, project finance and credit risk analytics.
