Underwriting Manager – Construction & Energy Guarantees

About the role

Guardrisk is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead the Construction and Energy Guarantees portfolio. The role involves overseeing complex guarantee transactions, driving growth, and managing a dedicated underwriting team.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite large and complex construction, corporate and renewable energy guarantee transactions.
• Member of the underwriting risk committee for the Construction Bonds & Guarantees division.
• Prepare detailed underwriting reports, proposals and conduct due‑diligence and credit risk assessments for projects.
• Develop financial analysis and modelling for large project deals and structure guarantee instruments, legal documentation and commercial terms.
• Oversee the corporate portfolio of existing clients and manage client relationships across the Energy and Construction Guarantees division.
• Build and strengthen relationships with brokers, commercial banks, private lenders, developers, infrastructure consultants and industry bodies.
• Grow the Energy & Construction Guarantees book of business in the corporate segment.
• Lead, mentor and train the guarantees team, ensuring alignment with strategic targets.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree (BCom, BScEng, QS, LLB or similar) and/or postgraduate qualification (MBA, MCom, MSc) – or working towards it.
• Certificate in Banking/Short‑Term Insurance, RE5 Certificate for Representatives and FAIS compliance – or working towards them.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in guarantees, trade banking or reinsurance.
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure and project finance.
