Transport & Logistics Manager

About the role

The Transport & Logistics Manager will lead the daily transport operations, ensuring efficient movement of logs, timber products and finished goods across the supply chain. Reporting to senior management, you will optimise fleet utilisation, control costs and uphold safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and dispatch vehicles, coordinating both company-owned and subcontractor fleets.
• Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules and operating costs.
• Develop and implement transport strategies to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
• Analyse routes, delivery schedules and loading efficiencies to identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Secure back‑loading opportunities and minimise empty kilometres.
• Collaborate with production, procurement, sales and operations teams to meet transport requirements.
• Negotiate rates and service agreements with transport contractors.
• Lead, supervise and develop logistics personnel, setting performance standards.
• Prepare logistics, cost analysis and fleet performance reports.
• Manage transport budgets and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport or logistics management, preferably in a manufacturing or timber environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret performance metrics.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage external contractors.
• Knowledge of South African transport legislation and road safety regulations.
