Trainee Accountant – SAIPA Article Clerk

About the role

We are a leading audit firm based in Die Wilgers, Pretoria, seeking a motivated trainee accountant to join our team as a SAIPA Article Clerk. This full‑time position offers hands‑on experience in financial reporting, bookkeeping and tax compliance while you work toward becoming a Professional Accountant.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of client financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Process monthly accounting and bookkeeping tasks, including transaction capture, bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance.
• Conduct basic financial analysis, identify trends or discrepancies and provide insights under senior supervision.
• Support the preparation and submission of tax returns such as VAT, PAYE and income tax.
• Ensure all work adheres to SAIPA, ISA and IFRS for SMEs regulations.
• Prepare management accounts and supporting schedules for client performance monitoring.
• Engage with clients on queries, explain financial information and provide general accounting support.
• Collaborate closely with senior accountants and team members to meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality work.

Required profile

• Aspired Professional Accountant (SAIPA) qualification.
• Accounting or finance degree completed or in progress, with audit studied as a subject.
• No prior work experience required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Pastel accounting software.
• Proficiency in Xero accounting software.
• Familiarity with Micros accounting system.
