Theatre Unit Manager

About the role

The Theatre Unit Manager will lead the nursing team at Life Eugene Marais Hospital’s Theatre Unit. Reporting to the Theatre Manager, the role ensures high‑quality clinical care, safety and efficient use of resources while supporting the hospital’s growth and patient‑centred objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and oversee the implementation of nursing care plans across multidisciplinary teams.
• Coordinate treatment delivery, conduct quality rounds, audits and address patient complaints.
• Drive unit‑specific best practices, national quality initiatives and risk‑management actions.
• Manage people processes, staff development, and foster a learning environment for nurses and students.
• Participate in budgeting, control nursing costs, and oversee stock and equipment utilisation.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with internal departments, doctors, patients, families and external service providers.

Required profile

• Qualified nursing professional with extensive experience in operating theatre environments.
• Proven leadership abilities and a track record of improving clinical outcomes.
• Strong understanding of hospital finance, budgeting and equipment management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
