Technical Support Engineer – Satellite Communications

About the role
We are looking for a Technical Support Engineer to be the first point of contact for CUBECOM’s global customers. The role combines post‑sales troubleshooting, customer onboarding and the creation of a self‑service support platform for our satellite RF communication products.
Key responsibilities
- Handle first‑line technical queries across the full product range, reproduce issues in‑lab and own tickets through to resolution.
- Develop and maintain a customer support forum with integrated ticketing, FAQ and knowledge‑base sections, and migrate existing users from Slack.
- Lead onboarding sessions, prepare welcome packs, training material and keep accurate records of hardware configurations.
- Write and update user documentation, integration guides and release notes, and feed support trends back to product owners.
- Report on support metrics such as response time, resolution rate and customer satisfaction, and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Required profile
- South African citizenship or valid work permit.
- BEng/BSc Eng/BTech or National Diploma in Electrical, Electronic, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering.
- At least two years of experience in a customer‑facing technical role (support, applications engineering, field service, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and strong organisational abilities.
- Willingness to work occasional outside‑office hours and travel internationally as needed.
Required skills
- Understanding of RF and digital communication fundamentals (link budgets, modulation, coding, EIRP, S‑band, X‑band, Ka‑band).
- Ability to read schematics, interface control documents and telemetry logs.
- Practical lab experience with spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector signal analyzers and power meters.
- Proficiency with version‑control and collaboration tools (Git, Jira, Confluence, Slack, Markdown).
- Basic knowledge of FPGA firmware and embedded C.
- Familiarity with satellite communication standards (DVB‑S2, CCSDS) and spacecraft interfaces (UART, RS‑422, RS‑485, I2C, SPI, CAN, LVDS, SERDES, Spacewire, Ethernet).
- Scripting in Python for log analysis and test automation.
- Knowledge of ground‑station software and orbital basics (GNU Radio, SatNOGS, Gpredict, TLEs).
