Technical Support Engineer

About the role

Our client is a fast‑growing company in the space industry, specialising in the design, development and manufacturing of advanced RF communication systems for satellite applications. The company provides high‑data‑rate communication solutions to customers worldwide, ranging from universities and start‑ups to established aerospace companies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line post‑sales technical support to international customers across the full product range.
• Diagnose and resolve technical queries, escalating complex issues to engineering teams while managing them through to resolution.
• Develop and maintain a customer support platform, ticketing system, FAQ and knowledge base.
• Manage new customer onboarding and develop supporting training materials.
• Maintain accurate customer hardware, firmware and configuration records.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, manuals and troubleshooting resources.
• Analyse recurring support issues and collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve products and support tools.
• Monitor support performance and contribute to continuous improvement of customer support processes.

Required profile

• BEng, BSc Eng, BTech or National Diploma in Electronic, Electrical, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
• 2+ years’ experience in a customer‑facing technical role such as technical support, applications engineering, field service, testing or systems integration.
• Strong written and verbal English communication and technical writing skills.
• Excellent organisation, problem‑solving and customer‑service abilities with thorough follow‑through.
• Comfortable working with international customers and occasional different time zones.
• Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally when required.
• South African citizenship or a valid work permit.

Required skills

• RF and digital communication fundamentals.
• Interpretation of schematics, technical documents, test reports and telemetry logs.
• Use of laboratory equipment such as spectrum analysers, signal generators and power meters.
• Working knowledge of FPGA firmware and embedded C.
• Experience with Git, Jira, Confluence and Slack.
• Python scripting.
• Familiarity with satellite communication protocols or ground‑station software.
