Data Engineer – Design and Build Scalable Data Platforms

About the role

Capitec Bank is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain robust, scalable data platforms that enable data‑driven decision‑making across the organisation. You will analyse business and system requirements, collaborate with Data Architects, and develop pipelines that ensure reliable flow of financial data.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise data platforms and infrastructure on AWS.
• Analyse business and system requirements and contribute to solution design documentation.
• Build and maintain ETL pipelines, ensuring error handling and recovery mechanisms.
• Implement data‑lake and data‑warehouse patterns, data quality and governance controls.
• Apply CI/CD principles, version control and infrastructure‑as‑code for deployment automation.
• Collaborate with finance, IT and cross‑functional teams to deliver data‑driven solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
• At least 5 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS cloud data services and Snowflake.
• Proven experience building and optimising data pipelines for financial analytics.
• Clear criminal and credit record.
