Technical Cyber Security Consultant

About the role

The Technical Cyber Security Consultant will provide expert consulting on security controls, drive security design deliverables, and evaluate existing controls to strengthen the SARB Group’s risk posture.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and promote security‑focused thinking across the SARB Group while optimizing processes.
• Provide technical direction, oversight, coaching and mentoring to BSTD team members on secure implementations.
• Define, design and optimise security mechanisms that enable secure business processes.
• Research the threat landscape and emerging developments to mitigate cyber and system risks for on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Identify security requirements from business needs and guide the development and maturation of controls.
• Liaise with security architects, technical teams and service providers to share best practices.
• Assess existing architectural artifacts and security patterns, recommending expansions to reduce risk.
• Evaluate implemented security controls, identify gaps and improve their effectiveness.
• Guide compliance measurement interpretation for accurate risk reporting.
• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of security policies, frameworks and standards.
• Develop and evaluate RFIs/RFPs for security solutions and advise on security requirements.
• Respond to management requests to address or mitigate identified risks.
• Participate in the Incident Response team (CSIRT) to consult on critical security incidents.

Required profile

• BSc Computer Science Honours or BSc Engineering Honours (NQF 8) with relevant industry qualifications, or equivalent.
• CISSP certification is mandatory.
• 8–10 years of experience in cyber security and security control design.
