Technical Assistant

About the role

Herotel (Pty) Ltd is looking for a Technical Assistant based in East London (Eastern region). The role supports the technician with their duties and mainly involves manual labour. Candidates are asked to submit a CV through the employer's application process.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the technician in performing their duties and follow reasonable instructions.
• Maintain order in the vehicle, keep it clean and organised, and keep tools packed away and in good order.
• Handle and transport materials on the work site, clean vehicles and equipment, and do housekeeping.
• Dress and prepare poles, dig holes for poles, string aerial cable, dig trenches, and install manholes and handholes.
• Report to the Team Leader, assist with stocktaking, and carry out ad hoc reporting, admin or personal assistant tasks as requested by the manager.
• Be courteous to customers and adhere to all health and safety requirements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education.
• Proficient with hand tools and able to work with general hand tools and equipment.
• Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces, and fit for physical activity.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements; cabling experience is advantageous.
• Experience with underground utilities and fibre optic cabling is advantageous.
• Able to read and write, read instructions, communicate well and be self-driven.
• Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals in line with the company's employment equity plan.
