Team Leader – Materials Management

About the role

The Materials Department is seeking a proactive Team Leader to oversee material stock, handling equipment and warehouse operations at our Springs site. Reporting to the Materials Manager, you will ensure efficient material flow, minimise waste and support uninterrupted production.

Key responsibilities

• Manage materials stock and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to meet performance targets.
• Control stock variances, waste and damages while improving operational methods.
• Supervise loading and off‑loading of contracted transport, ensuring accuracy and short turnaround times.
• Oversee daily MHE operations, including forklift use, to maintain safety and efficiency.
• Maintain continuous material handling processes, supporting timely movement of goods to production.
• Lead weekly and annual stocktakes, ensuring compliance with inventory control procedures.
• Conduct daily Gemba walks, monitor forklift costs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and coach subordinates, ensuring competency and motivation.
• Investigate incidents, report near‑misses and implement corrective actions via the One2Improve system.

Required profile

• ND in Logistics, Warehousing or equivalent qualification.
• 3–5 years of warehouse experience with supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
• Proven track record in inventory management, stock control and material flow coordination.
• Strong understanding of receiving, storage, picking, dispatch and stocktaking processes.
• Experience managing MHE, particularly forklifts, with a focus on safety.
• Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; SAP knowledge is advantageous.
• Dynamic, analytical and proactive communication skills with suppliers and internal teams.
