Tax Manager – Compliance & Advisory

About the role

The Tax Manager will lead the technical execution and management of client compliance and advisory mandates, working directly with the CEO. The role also involves mentoring tax trainees and serving as the primary client contact for tax matters.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review income tax returns (ITR14, ITR12, ITR12T) for corporations, SMMEs, trusts and individuals.
• Prepare provisional tax estimates (IRP6) and reconcile tax positions.
• Manage VAT201, EMP201, EMP501 and Dividend Tax Returns (DTR01, DTR02) including reconciliations.
• Assist with SARS registrations, eFiling submissions and correspondence.
• Provide advisory services on corporate restructurings, group relief, Section 45 roll‑over, exit charges, CGT exposure and cross‑border tax issues.
• Interpret and apply South Africa’s double tax agreement network.
• Maintain client relationships, monitor deadlines and mentor tax trainees.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting or BCom Taxation (minimum); HDip Tax or MCom Taxation advantageous.
• SAIT membership; TP(SA) designation preferred.
• 2–5 years post‑articles experience in tax compliance and advisory.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English; Afrikaans a plus.
• Self‑managed, deadline‑driven with high professional integrity.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the Income Tax Act, VAT Act and Tax Administration Act.
• Proficiency with SARS eFiling and preparation of tax returns (ITR, IRP6, VAT201, EMP201/501, DTR).
• Experience applying double tax agreements in cross‑border structuring.
• Familiarity with estate administration and deceased estate tax compliance.
• Basic understanding of IFRS financial reporting.
