Tax and Compliance Officer

About the role

Sanlam Private Wealth is seeking a Tax and Compliance Officer to support the tax reporting and regulatory compliance of its high‑net‑worth client portfolios. The role involves managing corporate action events, preparing client tax reports, and ensuring adherence to South African tax, FATCA, CRS and Qualified Intermediary requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and load corporate action events into tax reporting systems, applying South African tax principles to calculate proceeds and base cost.
• Capture and review corporate events in the client CGT reporting system, clearing exceptions and liaising with business units on treatment.
• Assist in the preparation, review and delivery of client income and CGT tax reports, addressing client queries.
• Investigate dividend and corporate action discrepancies, review journal entries and scrip movement prices for accuracy.
• Support third‑party data submissions to SARS, FATCA and CRS reporting, and Qualified Intermediary reporting to the IRS.
• Maintain and update W8/W9 withholding tax status, review form completeness, and provide training on regulatory changes.
• Contribute to policy and process development to enhance compliance across systems.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of South African tax legislation, CGT, FATCA, CRS and Qualified Intermediary rules.
• Experience handling corporate action events and tax reporting for wealth‑management clients.
• Ability to analyse complex tax data, resolve discrepancies and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
• Detail‑oriented with a proactive approach to staying current on regulatory changes.
