Tailor and Shop Assistant

About the role

A full-time Tailor and Shop Assistant position at Apex Speed in Ferndale, Randburg, focused on high-quality clothing alterations and repairs. The role also supports general shop operations such as laundry processing, sneaker cleaning and customer service. It is advertised as a trial-to-hire opportunity with a monthly salary of R7 500.

Key responsibilities

• Perform accurate clothing alterations and repairs, including hemming, mending and resizing.
• Operate and maintain sewing machines and other tailoring equipment.
• Check all altered garments for quality before customers collect them.
• Assist with laundry processing so items are cleaned and prepared to standard.
• Clean sneakers using appropriate techniques and products.
• Provide friendly, efficient customer service, answering queries and processing transactions.
• Keep the work area, tailoring station and shop floor tidy and organised.

Required profile

• Proven experience in clothing alterations and repairs.
• Customer service experience in a retail environment.
• Useful: experience with sneaker cleaning and familiarity with laundry processing procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency with industrial and domestic sewing machines.
• Precise hand stitching and finishing.
• Strong understanding of different fabrics and how to handle them.
