Assistant Fire Fighter (EPWP) - Porterville and Eendekuil

About the role

Bergrivier Municipality is offering two temporary Assistant Fire Fighter positions under its Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP), one in Porterville and one in Eendekuil. The programme is temporary, so there can be no expectation of renewal or a permanent appointment. The contract runs from 1 December 2026 to 30 June 2027 or as otherwise agreed.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with basic firefighting and disaster management functions.
• Work 40 hours per week, including after-hours and weekend work, and occasionally provide services in other parts of the municipal area on request.

Required profile

• Grade 12.
• Aged between 18 and 35.
• Fluent in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa).
• No criminal record and a police security clearance (not older than 3 months) or proof of payment, submitted with the application.
• Physically fit and mentally sound; able to work in a team and take responsibility.
• Must not have taken part in this programme before.
• Must live within the Bergrivier Municipal area, with proof of address and a sworn affidavit.
• No fear of confined spaces, heights, depths, water, blood and corpses.

• Pay R 250 per day.
