Systems Engineer

About the role

The Systems Engineer will provide remote and on‑site support for desktops and servers across a range of Wintel environments. Reporting to Johannelie Bleksley, the role combines incident handling, automation, and small‑scale project work while maintaining strong customer relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver remote support and maintenance for Windows desktops and servers, with occasional on‑site visits.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve incidents detected by Network Operations Centre tools.
• Provide 1st and 2nd line incident and request handling, including root‑cause analysis and automation of repetitive issues.
• Build capacity, stability and performance trends for service reporting.
• Implement changes, version upgrades and migrations as part of small projects.
• Participate in rotational standby and occasional after‑hours support.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in an IT MSP environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work under pressure, mentor junior staff and deliver continuous service improvement.
• Comfortable working remotely and on‑site as required.

• Windows 7, 8.1, 10 desktop support.
• Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2016 administration.
• Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, File & Print services.
• Patch management for endpoints and servers.
• Basic firewall and UTM device management.
• IP addressing, subnetting and routing fundamentals.
• ITIL‑based incident, request and change management.
• Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator certification.
• Microsoft 410, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Microsoft 700.
• Azure Fundamentals (AZ900).
• VMware VCP Data Center Virtualization 2023.
• Veeam Certified Engineer VMCE 2023.
