System Design Engineer – Randburg

About the role

We are looking for a System Design Engineer to join our Randburg office, supporting Rockwell Automation’s customers across Sub‑Saharan Africa. The role involves translating customer requirements into robust automation solutions and overseeing the full lifecycle from concept to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse customer requirements and define optimal control system architecture, hardware selection and software configuration.
• Develop conceptual and detailed hardware designs that meet industry standards and safety requirements.
• Define control strategies and system specifications aligned with functional, safety and performance goals.
• Oversee integration of Rockwell Automation and third‑party hardware, instrumentation and control systems.
• Prepare technical documentation such as functional specifications, design reports and test procedures.
• Conduct design reviews, factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) with internal teams and customers.
• Provide on‑site commissioning, start‑up support and troubleshooting as required.
• Collaborate with panel builders, suppliers and system partners to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Identify and resolve system design or performance issues, recommending corrective actions.
• Apply innovative thinking to improve system performance, reduce complexity and enhance customer value.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma (NQF 6 or 7) in Electrical, Electronic, Computer or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in control system design, implementation and commissioning.
• Hands‑on experience with Rockwell Automation technologies.
• Proven ability to develop innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.
