Supply Chain Specialist – 6‑Month Contract in Durban

About the role

The Supply Chain Specialist will support the procurement function for a six‑month period, ensuring that demand management, acquisition and compliance processes align with public sector regulations. The role works closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to deliver efficient, transparent procurement services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage demand and acquisition processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and delegation of authority.
• Assist in drafting specifications and coordinate inputs for demand and procurement plans.
• Conduct market and commodity research and maintain compliance with the Central Supplier Database (CSD).
• Oversee bid committees, internal controls, and the effective handling of quotations and bids according to National Treasury prescripts.
• Produce monthly reports on procurement performance, irregularities, and alignment with demand plans.
• Supervise sections, develop supplier relationships, and manage Service Level Agreements with the Ports Regulator.
• Control assets, manage disposal and loss‑control processes, and support the Administrative Department’s objectives.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification at NQF level 7 (undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent).
• Minimum five years of supply‑chain experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, BBEE Act, Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act and other public‑sector procurement legislation.
• Experience with contract management, strategic sourcing, public‑sector supply‑chain models and delegation of authority.
