Store Manager - Value Supermarket

About the role

A5 Cash and Carry is looking for a Store Manager in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The role covers daily supermarket operations, front-end and cashier management, and leading the in-store retail team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily opening and closing procedures so the store is clean, welcoming and safe.
• Oversee shelf replenishment, attractive pricing displays and seasonal promotions such as monthly savings and stationery sales.
• Monitor inventory levels to minimise shrinkage and keep top-selling groceries, household items and apparel available.
• Supervise cashiers and cash-office staff, handling daily cash-ups, secure till changes and register audits.
• Manage front-end checkout queues during peak hours to keep waiting times low.
• Coordinate weekly shift rosters for cashiers, general assistants, shelf packers and security staff.
• Direct, motivate and coach the floor team, resolve internal disputes and promote weekly in-store specials and digital deals.
• Stay visible on the floor assisting shoppers, managing returns or refunds and resolving complaints.

Required profile

• Matric certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent; a tertiary qualification in Retail Management or Business is advantageous.
• 3 to 5+ years as a Store Manager or Assistant Manager in a fast-moving FMCG, value supermarket or retail store.
• Flexible availability for standard retail shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Required skills

• Exceptional retail customer service and team-building ability.
• Strong retail arithmetic for daily cash-ups and variance tracking.
• Familiarity with retail point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory software.
