Stakeholder Relations and Public Policy Regulatory Engagement Specialist

About the role

This position leads the interface between Sasol, its service providers and the surrounding community to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships. The role supports recruitment of local talent for megaprojects, scheduled maintenance and other operational initiatives while safeguarding Sasol’s reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and analyse emerging political, labour and civil‑society issues that could impact Sasol’s reputation.
• Develop and execute stakeholder engagement plans aligned with regional strategies.
• Manage relationships with stakeholder forums, NGOs, unions, municipal and provincial authorities.
• Facilitate recruitment of semi‑skilled labour for megaprojects through community outreach.
• Provide crisis support during protests, coordinating with security, police and community leaders.
• Oversee the stakeholder portal, ensuring regular capacity‑building for users.
• Contribute to public and regulatory affairs strategies and assist in securing operating licences.
• Interpret new labour‑relations regulations and support resolution of external employment disputes.
• Design and manage research projects to monitor stakeholder trends and needs.

Required profile

• Proven experience in stakeholder, community or public‑policy engagement, preferably in the chemicals or energy sector.
• Strong understanding of South African political, labour and regulatory environments.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage crisis situations.
• Experience developing engagement road‑maps, portals and capacity‑building programmes.
