About the role
The Stakeholder Engagement Manager will act as the primary liaison between refinery operations and surrounding communities. This role ensures that socio‑economic development initiatives are integrated across procurement, HR, SHEQ and technical functions in line with the refinery’s Social Performance Strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a 5‑year Social Performance Strategy aligned with group frameworks.
- Serve as the main contact for community stakeholders, managing grievances and disputes.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, local government and internal teams.
- Lead community engagement platforms, forums and feedback sessions.
- Coordinate cross‑functional socio‑economic development initiatives across Procurement, HR, SHEQ and Technical functions.
- Drive Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) programmes and support local SMME growth.
- Identify local procurement opportunities and facilitate supplier development activities.
- Develop and roll out an Employee Wellness strategy, including assistance programmes.
- Ensure compliance with Mining Charter, B‑BBEE codes and related regulatory frameworks.
- Monitor stakeholder‑related risks, compile reports and contribute to internal and group reporting structures.
Required profile
- Relevant NQF Level 7 qualification in Industrial Psychology, Social Sciences or Development Studies.
- Additional NQF Level 8 qualification in Business Administration or Project Management is advantageous.
- Minimum five years’ experience in mining, smelting or refinery environments focusing on stakeholder engagement or community development.
- Exposure to procurement processes, environmental legislation, supplier development and project management is a plus.
- Sound knowledge of B‑BBEE Codes, Mining Charter and related regulatory frameworks.
- Understanding of community structures, governance and socio‑economic dynamics.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Medically fit and able to work on‑site.
