Specialist Audit – Advanced Tax & Forensic Audits

About the role

The South African Revenue Services is seeking a highly skilled Specialist in Audit (Specialised Audit) to lead advanced, high‑complexity tax audits. The role involves influencing compliance, providing technical support to auditors, and identifying tax avoidance schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct advanced audits of complex transactions across multiple tax types, both locally and internationally.
• Analyse highly complex data, identify risks, and recommend improvements to systems, procedures and policies.
• Utilise digital forensics tools and e‑commerce risk methodologies to address advanced audit risks.
• Engage with litigation, dispute management and debt collection teams; testify in civil or criminal court when required.
• Identify serious tax offences for criminal investigation and propose legislative changes to close compliance gaps.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in a tax audit environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Audit, Tax or Accounting.
• Professional registration with SAICA, SAIT, ACCA, ACFE, CFA, SAIPA or LPC.
• Honours degree in Accounts/Tax, CA(SA) qualification, M Comm (Tax) or Certified Fraud Examiner is advantageous.
