Specialised Critical Care Nurse

About the role

Mediclinic Panorama in Cape Town is recruiting one permanent, on-site Specialised Critical Care Nurse. The main purpose of the role is to deliver safe, comprehensive and quality nursing care in line with the Scope of Practice, working within a multi-professional team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver quality nursing care in collaboration with a multi-professional team
• Identify, prevent and manage risks to ensure patient safety
• Facilitate a positive patient experience by creating a conducive environment
• Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions
• Create a learning environment that builds staff competence
• Ensure that all used stock and equipment are accurately charged

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in General Nursing (essential)
• Desired: Midwifery or a postgraduate certificate/diploma in a relevant specialty area
• No experience required; preferred: 1 year of post-graduate experience before placement in a specialised unit
• Applicants are considered against the Employment Equity Plan, with preference given to internal applicants who meet the minimum requirements

• Infection prevention and control
• Pharmacology
• Scientific nursing principles and process
• Nursing record keeping and patient assessment
• Developing and modifying nursing care plans
• Knowledge of relevant nursing legislation
• Basic life support: ACLS, ATLS and PALS training for specialised wards
• Risk identification
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
