Spanish-Speaking Commis – International Cruise Ship Galley

About the role

A cruise line is looking for a Spanish-speaking commis to work in its galley on an international cruise ship. The commis prepares ingredients and cooks dishes in an assigned galley section, working under the Chef de Partie and Demi Chef de Partie to recipe, portion and presentation standards. The position suits someone fluent in Spanish, as daily communication with colleagues and supervisors is in Spanish.

Key responsibilities

• Mise en place, cooking and plating for high-volume service in main dining rooms, buffets and crew dining
• Follow strict public health, food safety and hygiene standards (USPH/HACCP), including food storage, labelling, temperature logs and cleaning schedules
• Rotate between sections as needed and support stock rotation and receiving
• Work long shifts in a multicultural galley team on contracts of several months at sea

Required profile

• Fluent spoken Spanish and good spoken and written English
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a professional hotel, resort or cruise ship kitchen
• Recognised culinary qualification (degree, diploma or certificate)
• Grade 12 or equivalent completed secondary education
• Valid passport
• Preferred: international kitchen experience, 4- or 5-star hotel or resort experience, high-volume or banquet/buffet experience, and cruise ship experience
