Software Engineer – Level 1

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking a Software Engineer – Level 1 to join its technology team. The role involves designing, coding, testing and implementing integration components and supporting applications that drive the company’s digital services across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance existing applications while creating new routine applications to meet customer requirements.
• Perform business and software analysis, produce concepts and prototypes, and contribute to the application roadmap.
• Identify, diagnose and resolve complex software defects and performance issues.
• Create and maintain technical and user documentation to a high standard.
• Implement security measures such as firewalls and encryption, and monitor compliance with regulatory policies.
• Support database design and physical modeling, and assist with technical infrastructure improvements.
• Conduct research, data collection and analysis to inform future technology directions.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with ability to perform business and software analysis.
• Understanding of IT governance, regulatory compliance and information security principles.
• Experience in documenting “as‑is” and “to‑be” processes and supporting system maintenance.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate technical concepts clearly.
