Software Engineer (Java, React, AWS)

About the role

DigiCert, a global leader in intelligent trust, is looking for a Software Engineer to join its development team in Cape Town. You will design, build and ship scalable and secure web applications, working closely with developers, product managers and other teams to turn requirements into reliable solutions. It is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys owning features end to end and contributing to technical decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain features using Java on the backend and React on the frontend
• Take part in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement and retrospectives
• Work with product managers to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet user and business needs
• Help design scalable architectures and well-defined APIs, and build and consume RESTful services
• Containerize applications and deploy and operate them on AWS using cloud-native services
• Write clean, tested and documented code, take part in code reviews and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and production support
• Improve performance, reliability, security and developer productivity, and share knowledge and mentor junior engineers

Required profile

• Minimum of 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Proven experience in Agile environments
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach

Required skills

• Strong Java backend development
• React, modern JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML and CSS
• Docker containerization
• REST APIs and relational or NoSQL databases
• Git, automated testing and CI/CD
• AWS services (EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, CloudFormation/Terraform) is a strong plus

Preferred: microservices and event-driven architecture, Kubernetes, application security, AWS certifications, observability tools and Agile certifications.
