Site Supervisor – GO Shutdown Projects

About the role

Chart Industries (Howden) is seeking Site Supervisors to lead GO shutdown projects across customer sites in South Africa. The role involves overseeing daily site activities, ensuring safety and quality standards, and coordinating mechanical and welding work.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in pre‑project discussions and first‑line inspections to define the scope of work.
• Plan and interpret project requirements after receiving the production order (data package).
• Compile spares lists, control stock of tools and equipment, and expedite receipt of spares to the site.
• Ensure all safety regulations, site safety files, and quality systems are applied and up‑to‑date.
• Organise daily activities using bar charts to monitor progress against the scope of work.
• Represent the Site Manager at customer meetings to report progress when required.
• Check and endorse timesheets, enabling client sign‑off for shift handovers.
• Perform welding or mechanical supervision duties on site, develop quality control plans, and maintain data books.
• Verify welding qualifications, coordinate welding/mechanical activities, and audit data books for safe storage.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or N3 qualification.
• Trade‑tested and qualified Mechanical Fitter.
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
• Level 1 welding fabrication inspector certificate (advantage).
• 3‑5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in power stations, mining or petro‑chemical environments.
• Knowledge of NEC 3 contracts and a valid driver’s licence.
