Site Engineer – Underground Mining & Tunnelling

About the role

An experienced Site Engineer is needed to support an underground tunnelling operation at a platinum mine in Burgersfort, Limpopo. The role involves hands‑on engineering, maintenance and technical support for Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), underground mobile equipment and critical mining infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering and maintenance support for TBMs, conveyors, hydraulic systems, pumps, cooling systems and electrical installations.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control‑system faults, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and monitor preventative and corrective maintenance schedules, allocate resources and supervise breakdown responses.
• Lead artisans, technicians and operators, ensuring quality workmanship and safety compliance.

Required profile

• Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical, Mining or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years engineering/maintenance experience in underground mining or tunnelling, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence and medically fit for underground work.
• Strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and underground safety procedures.

Required skills

• Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) operation and maintenance.
• Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and PLC control systems.
• Preventative and corrective maintenance, fault‑finding and root‑cause analysis.
• Experience with CMMS, condition monitoring and medium‑voltage electrical systems.
