Shift Controller – Production Operations

About the role

The Shift Controller is responsible for ensuring optimal utilisation of the plant, raw materials and workforce during each shift. Reporting to the Production Manager, the role drives production efficiency, quality and cost‑effectiveness while complying with all safety and legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and execute the weekly production plan for each line and shift.
• Monitor production processes, identify trends and initiate corrective actions to improve efficiency, quality and waste reduction.
• Coordinate scheduled maintenance to maximise machine availability.
• Ensure raw materials and finished goods are available for uninterrupted production.
• Oversee shift documentation including production sheets, work orders, quality and cleaning check sheets, and stock management records.
• Maintain a safe, healthy and risk‑free working environment in line with safety, food safety, health and environmental legislation.
• Lead problem‑solving initiatives and continuous improvement activities on the shop floor.
• Coach team members, manage personnel processes such as leave applications and performance management, and foster positive employee relations.

Required profile

• BTech in Mechanical, Industrial or Metallurgical Engineering (or related field).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment, preferably in a supervisory role.
• Experience in 3‑piece food can, end or beverage can manufacturing is an advantage.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Shift Supervisor controlling a manufacturing plant is preferred.
• Internal candidates will be given priority; applicants must meet the minimum requirements.
