SHEQ Officer for Petrochemical Shutdown Project

About the role

The SHEQ Officer will support health, safety, environmental and quality compliance for a major petrochemical shutdown project in Secunda. Reporting to the project SHEQ lead, the officer ensures catering operations meet client, legal and company standards in a high‑risk industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor compliance with all SHEQ policies, procedures, standards and legislation.
• Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits and hazard‑identification activities.
• Facilitate risk assessments and support incident investigations, driving corrective actions.
• Maintain SHEQ records, registers and reporting documentation.
• Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and safety awareness training to staff and contractors.
• Ensure food safety and quality standards are upheld within catering services.
• Support emergency preparedness, response initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric and a National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management or related field.
• Minimum 2–3 years SHEQ experience in a high‑risk operational environment.
• Experience supporting shutdown projects in petrochemical, mining, manufacturing or contract‑catering sectors.
• Registration with SACPCMP as a CHSO or CHSM and SAMTRAC qualification are advantageous.
