SHE & Compliance Officer (PTA003933/MM)

About the role

An established multi-branch business with distribution operations is looking for a SHE & Compliance Officer based in Bloemfontein. The role covers occupational health and safety, regulatory compliance and environmental initiatives across the business's branches and distribution centres, with exposure to ESG reporting. The position is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and improve OHS systems, policies and procedures across multiple sites.
• Conduct risk assessments (HIRA), safety inspections, compliance audits and incident investigations.
• Ensure compliance with the OHS Act, COIDA and relevant regulations.
• Manage safety appointments, training, emergency preparedness and contractor compliance.
• Maintain legal compliance registers, statutory certificates and audit documentation.
• Support environmental and social management systems (ESMS), waste management and environmental compliance.
• Collect and verify carbon footprint and ESG reporting data, and prepare monthly safety, compliance and ESG reports for management.

Required profile

• Matric and a National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Management or a related field (NQF 6+).
• SAMTRAC or an equivalent recognised OHS qualification.
• 2-3 years' OHS experience, ideally in warehousing, distribution, logistics or a multi-site environment.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel between branches.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and keep accurate records.

Required skills

• Solid knowledge of OHS legislation, COIDA and relevant environmental legislation.
• Practical experience in risk assessments, incident investigations and compliance audits.
• Strong Excel, reporting, analytical and communication skills.
• Advantageous: ESG reporting, ESMS, waste management or carbon footprint reporting, ISO 45001/14001 knowledge, or SAIOSH membership.
