Shaft Timberman – Underground Mining

About the role

KB Mining, a contractor to Evander Gold Mine, is seeking an experienced Shaft Timberman to install, maintain and repair shaft support systems in an underground mining environment. The role ensures safe shaft operations and compliance with mining regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect work areas and verify ground conditions are safe before starting work.
• Conduct barring and secure loose rocks to maintain a safe environment.
• Assist with shaft equipping and other support‑related activities as required.
• Report unsafe conditions immediately to the supervising officer.
• Follow all safety procedures, COPs and legal requirements.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and keep tools in good condition.
• Control explosives and support blasting activities where needed.

Required profile

• Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
• Valid Banksman/Onsetter certificate.
• Valid Timberman certificate.
• Blasting certificate (advantageous).
• 3–5 years experience as a timberman in underground mining.
• Willingness to work shifts and underground conditions.
• Valid medical certificate for underground work.
• Clear criminal and disciplinary record.
