Mobile Workshop Manager – Earthmoving Operations

About the role

A well‑known manufacturing company of building and construction products is seeking a Mobile Workshop Manager based in Kempton Park. The manager will lead the mobile field service unit to maximise uptime of the earthmoving and haulage fleet across regional cement limestone mines and quarries around Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate breakdown response and scheduling for mobile repair trucks serving quarry equipment such as Cat loaders, Komatsu haul trucks, track drills and mobile crushers.
• Manage field mechanics performing complex hydraulic, powertrain, dynamic braking and electrical repairs on pit faces and haul roads.
• Ensure compliance with the South African Mine Health and Safety Act, SOPs and site‑specific risk assessments to maintain a zero‑harm environment.
• Control mobile inventory, tools and diagnostic software to achieve high first‑time‑fix rates.
• Oversee OEM service agreements and parts sourcing with vendors like Caterpillar, Komatsu and Barloworld.
• Utilise ERP systems to create job cards, track work‑in‑progress and improve mean time to repair (MTTR) metrics.

Required profile

• Valid Section 13/26D Diesel Mechanic or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic trade qualification.
• 5–8 years of mechanical experience in open‑cast mining or aggregate quarry environments.
• 3+ years supervising field service or workshop teams.
• Strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and hazard‑identification risk assessments.
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence; Code 10 or 14 with a Professional Driving Permit is advantageous.
