Senior Tool Designer – Injection Mould & Metal Press

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Tool Designer to lead the design, development, and optimisation of precision tooling for both plastic injection moulding and metal press applications. This strategic position will influence the entire manufacturing journey, from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full design and development lifecycle of precision tooling projects.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Design single and multi‑cavity injection moulds and progressive die tooling solutions.
• Develop strip layouts and forming sequences for metal press applications.
• Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and tooling validation simulations.
• Support tool build processes, resolve manufacturing challenges, and manage engineering change control.
• Collaborate with toolmakers, engineers, and production teams throughout tool trials and optimisation.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in tooling design within a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
• Proven expertise in both injection mould tooling and metal press tool design.
• Strong understanding of progression and progressive die design principles.
• Advanced CAD/CAM experience using Mastercam, SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of CNC machining, wire cutting, spark erosion, and conventional toolroom operations.
• Excellent grasp of tool steels, heat‑treatment processes, and material behaviour.
• Solid working knowledge of GD&T principles and engineering standards.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, leadership, communication, and project‑management abilities.
