Senior Software Engineer (AI-Enabled)

About the role

Ozow, a fintech company reshaping digital payments across South Africa and internationally, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Cape Town development team. The role centres on designing and implementing software for the company's digital payment infrastructure, with a strong focus on integrating AI, especially Large Language Models (LLMs), during a major replatforming and modernisation initiative. You will also help set standards for the responsible use of AI tools across the software development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams in designing and delivering software solutions that meet strict quality standards.
• Drive the migration of existing systems to modern, AI-native cloud services.
• Design and develop new functionality that integrates with advanced LLMs.
• Write clean, efficient and maintainable code following best practices.
• Set and enforce team standards for the safe and ethical use of AI in development.
• Resolve complex technical issues and take ownership of system design and architecture.
• Lead code reviews using AI-assisted tools and define testing strategies.
• Manage services from development through production and optimise CI/CD pipelines.
• Work in an Agile framework, write technical documentation and mentor other engineers.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering or development.
• Demonstrated experience building and deploying AI-powered features in production.
• Experience migrating or replatforming live, high-volume systems.
• Strong system design and architectural expertise, and the ability to coach technical colleagues.

Required skills

• .NET 8 C# and JavaScript, with React.js.
• Experience integrating solutions with LLMs.
• Familiarity with cloud services (AWS or Azure) and containerisation technologies.
