Senior Procurement Manager

About the role

Our client in Durban is looking for an experienced Senior Procurement Manager to lead the sourcing of raw materials and packaging. This hands‑on leadership position combines strategic sourcing, technical packaging expertise, supplier management, and working‑capital optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead procurement of packaging across the full product portfolio, ensuring specifications, quality, and commercial requirements are met.
• Collaborate with R&D, Product Development, Quality, Operations and Marketing to create commercially viable, technically fit‑for‑purpose packaging solutions.
• Identify and evaluate international packaging innovations, new suppliers, technologies, materials and manufacturing capabilities.
• Manage procurement of key raw materials and fragrances, aligning specifications, quality and supply with business needs.
• Develop alternative suppliers and sourcing strategies to mitigate supply and cost risks.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities and payment terms; drive cost‑saving initiatives.
• Maintain accurate supplier and pricing data in the ERP system and utilise advanced Excel models for procurement processes.
• Optimise order frequency, MOQ, lead times and supplier terms to balance availability, cost and working capital.
• Analyse purchasing and inventory data to improve stock turns and reduce excess inventory.
• Lead, coach and develop the procurement team, setting clear objectives and performance standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Commerce or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in raw‑material and/or packaging procurement, including at least 5 years in a management role.
• Strong technical understanding of packaging materials, specifications and manufacturing processes.
• Advanced Excel proficiency with strong numerical and analytical ability.
• Proven supplier management and negotiation track record, delivering measurable cost savings.
