Senior Operator - Rolling Mill Department

About the role

SA Steelworks is looking for Senior Operators to support its Rolling Mill Department. This is a shift position; applicants must pass a skills test, with an average of 70% required to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Perform accurate setup, adjustment, operation and maintenance of machinery, stands and mechanisms in the production line
• Carry out daily inspections of the work area and report failures or unsafe conditions
• Maintain standard machine operating procedures and adhere to SOPs
• Keep the workstation clean and follow housekeeping policies
• Monitor the production process and analyse potential failures, proposing solutions promptly
• Ensure thorough shift handovers and clear reporting of issues each day
• Follow Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations and company policies, and carry out quality control to set standards

Required profile

• Matric with compulsory Maths
• Diploma or studies towards an engineering qualification
• Experience in the steel industry is advantageous
• Willingness to work overtime and shifts
• Physically fit and in good health

• Basic mathematical calculations to set correct process parameters
• Strong knowledge of machinery and ability to detect machine discrepancies
