Senior Mechanical Designer

About the role

Lycopodium Africa is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join its Cape Town office. Reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, you will work under senior design staff to create accurate 2D and 3D models and drawings for process plant and mine‑site projects.

Key responsibilities

• Produce 2D and 3D models and detailed design drawings using MicroStation, Autodesk AEC suite and Bentley tools.
• Detail materials handling equipment and mine‑plant layouts in accordance with industry standards and Lycopodium CAD procedures.
• Manage design deliverables within defined budget hours and project schedules.
• Apply sound knowledge of fabrication and construction techniques to ensure constructability.
• Maintain continuous professional development and share knowledge within the team.

Required profile

• Recognised tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline.
• 10+ years post‑graduation experience in process plant or mineral‑processing design.
• South African citizen or permanent resident, based in Cape Town.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to build stakeholder relationships.
• Proven ability to work independently while delivering high‑quality outputs.
• Technical aptitude with analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MicroStation (2D/3D).
• Experience with Autodesk AEC suite.
• Experience with Bentley suite and OpenBuildings Designer.
• Detailing of materials handling equipment and mine‑plant layouts.
