Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Mine Surveying (2 positions)

About the role

The University of Johannesburg seeks two academics – a Senior Lecturer and a Lecturer – to join the Department of Mining Engineering & Mine Surveying. You will contribute to teaching, research and industry engagement in mine surveying and related disciplines. The role supports the department’s vision of leading the 4th industrial revolution through applied mining research.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate lectures in Mine Surveying, Mine Valuation, Mine Planning and Structural Geology.
• Develop and update teaching materials that reflect South African mining conditions.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in mine surveying.
• Organise and facilitate practical fieldwork for students and mining engineers.
• Conduct and publish research in mine surveying and valuation.
• Participate in professional bodies such as IMSSA and SAGC.
• Contribute to curriculum development and short learning programmes.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (Lecturer) or PhD (Senior Lecturer) in Mine Surveying, Land Surveying or Engineering Surveying.
• Minimum three years of industry experience in mining or surveying.
• Eligibility to register with the South African Geomatics Council.
• Candidate for the Government Certificate of Competency in Mine Surveying or equivalent experience.
