Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Family Medicine (24‑month)

About the role

The Nelson Mandela University is seeking a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Family Medicine for a 24‑month fixed‑term appointment. Reporting to the Head of Family Medicine, the incumbent will lead the coordination of the undergraduate medical programme across primary‑care training sites in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and surrounding districts.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee the academic programme for medical students at clinical training sites, including primary‑care facilities, Uitenhage Provincial Hospital and district hospitals in the Sarah Baartman district.
• Facilitate high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment activities in Family Medicine and primary care, ensuring alignment with the university’s curriculum.
• Provide supervision, mentorship and assessment of undergraduate (and postgraduate) health‑science students on clinical platforms.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical partners, community stakeholders and university departments.
• Contribute to faculty development, scholarship of teaching and support relevant research initiatives.

Required profile

• Knowledge of South Africa’s Primary Health Care and District Health System.
• Qualified Family Medicine specialist (FCFP exam completed) or a Master’s degree in Family Medicine.
• Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner or specialist.
• Experience teaching undergraduate health‑professional students and a demonstrated interest in health professions education.
• Ability to work effectively in inter‑professional teams and engage with culturally diverse student and clinical populations.
