Senior Lead Solar Installation Electrician

About the role

Metsolar is seeking an experienced Senior / Lead Solar Installation Electrician to lead commercial and industrial solar projects. The role combines hands‑on installation, team supervision, and ensuring all work meets safety and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise solar PV installation teams on commercial and industrial sites.
• Install, commission and maintain grid‑tied, hybrid and off‑grid solar PV systems.
• Integrate battery storage systems, including lithium and lead‑acid batteries.
• Perform inverter commissioning, string sizing and related electrical work.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, technical drawings and single‑line diagrams.
• Conduct site assessments, technical walkthroughs and client handovers.
• Prepare installations for Certificate of Compliance (COC) inspection and sign‑off.
• Maintain accurate as‑built records and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with electrical standards, OHS requirements and work at heights or confined roof spaces as needed.
• Travel to various project sites and provide technical guidance to installation teams.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
• Recognised electrical qualification (e.g., Trade Test) and a 3‑Phase Wireman’s License.
• PV GreenCard / SAPVIA accreditation or willingness to obtain it.
• Valid driver’s licence (Code B or higher) and reliable transport (advantageous).
• 3+ years hands‑on experience installing grid‑tied, hybrid and off‑grid solar PV systems.
• 5+ years experience as an electrician, preferably on commercial/industrial scale projects.
• Proven experience leading or supervising on‑site installation teams.
• Experience with battery storage systems and backup/UPS integration.
• Knowledge of SANS 10142‑1‑2, SANS 61215/61730 and NRS 097 standards.
