Senior Java Back-End Engineer – Telecom (Stellenbosch)

About the role

We are seeking a seasoned Java engineer to design and scale high-performance back-end services for a leading telecommunications platform in Stellenbosch. The role involves building cloud-native, event-driven microservices that support millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-performance Java back-end services using Spring Boot.
• Build and expose scalable RESTful APIs and integrate with internal and external systems.
• Develop cloud-native applications on AWS and manage containerised deployments with Kubernetes.
• Contribute to event-driven and micro-services architecture, including Kafka-based messaging.
• Optimise system performance, reliability and scalability, and support production systems.
• Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making.

Required profile

• 9+ years of back-end software development experience.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven track record delivering production-grade distributed systems end-to-end.
• Experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL) and query optimisation.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services and containerisation (Kubernetes).
• Understanding of SDLC, testing practices and software design principles.
