Senior Hydrometallurgy Engineer

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring a Senior Hydrometallurgy Engineer in Lethabong. The role covers process engineering input to business development and marketing, project life cycle management, design, client relations, plant commissioning and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Support business development and marketing with process engineering input, produce proposals and define process/plant scope of work
• Produce conceptual design, mass and energy balances, conceptual PFDs and contribute to design criteria documents
• Provide process engineering input during project implementation, refine scope of work, schedules, budgets and procurement plans
• Generate detailed deliverables: mass and energy balances, detailed PFDs, equipment and motor lists, equipment specifications, data sheets, O&C philosophy, functional specifications, operating manuals and process guarantees
• Review design layouts, vendor packages and final process design documentation, and consult specialists on novel designs
• Manage client relations: prepare vendor lists, adjudicate technically and commercially, attend pre-award meetings and coordinate deliveries
• Produce and run the commissioning plan, define the commissioning sequence, conduct on-site commissioning, supervise operating personnel and support performance testing
• Lead design reviews and HAZOPs, ensure compliance with design codes and NEMA, and enforce process veto rights
• Contribute to continuous improvement, professional development and the promotion of the company's professional image

Required profile

• BSc/B.Eng in Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or Minerals Processing, with ECSA registration as a professional engineer
• 5-8 years of experience in industrial operations and successful technical design of concentrators, smelters, leach plants and refineries for copper, cobalt, zinc, nickel, gold, uranium, platinum group metals, coal washing, iron ore beneficiation or heavy mineral sands
