Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager (Construction)

About the role

RPO Recruitment’s client, a leading building contractor in KwaZulu‑Natal, is looking for a Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager to lead the tendering process for major building projects. The role combines detailed cost estimating with commercial oversight to secure new work and support business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive tender submissions for building projects.
• Review drawings, specifications and contract documents to define scope and pricing.
• Obtain, evaluate and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Identify risks, opportunities and value‑engineering options.
• Compile Bills of Quantities, pricing schedules and tender adjudication documentation.
• Collaborate with directors, contracts managers, quantity surveyors and project teams throughout the tender process.
• Attend site inspections, tender clarification meetings and client presentations as required.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date database of subcontractor pricing, suppliers and historical project costs.
• Ensure timely and accurate submission of all tenders.
• Support handover meetings after successful award and mentor junior estimators.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years’ estimating experience in the building construction sector.
• Proven track record pricing commercial, industrial, residential and mixed‑use projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, contracts and pricing principles.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency with estimating software.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
