Senior Civil Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead quality assurance and technical oversight for the construction of the U.S. Consulate in Durban, South Africa. The role involves ensuring that all civil and structural works comply with U.S. codes, project specifications, and contractual requirements throughout a 24‑month fixed‑term assignment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site technical inspections of civil and structural work and monitor contractor quality‑control programs.
• Review and approve engineering shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs for compliance with design documents and U.S. standards.
• Monitor construction progress against the schedule, prepare weekly progress reports, and recommend corrective actions.
• Evaluate contractor remedial proposals, coordinate independent government estimates for modifications, and resolve design conflicts.
• Ensure contractor safety and quality‑assurance programs are fully implemented.
• Prepare detailed construction reports highlighting progress, issues, and compliance status.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in civil/structural construction, preferably on government or diplomatic projects.
• Proven experience with U.S. building codes and standards.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on quality assurance.
