Senior Bookkeeper

About the role

The Senior Bookkeeper will act as the Finance Office Manager for a medium‑sized South African company, ensuring that all accounting records are accurate and complete before they are handed over to the external CA(SA). The role includes producing management accounts up to trial balance and supporting the external accountant with statutory compliance and strategic advice.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger, process journals and perform bank, credit‑card and petty‑cash reconciliations.
• Prepare cash‑flow forecasts, monitor daily cash positions and manage working‑capital tasks.
• Support accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment runs and credit control.
• Administer payroll inputs, leave reconciliations, overtime and commission calculations, and liaise with HR for accuracy.
• Handle VAT reconciliations, schedules and submission documentation.
• Produce monthly ledger, balance‑sheet and intercompany reconciliations.

• Excellent organisational, time‑management and independent‑working skills.
• Effective communication, commercial judgement and collaborative approach with management, auditors and external CA(SA).
