Semi-retired Diesel Truck Technician – Quality Controller

About the role

This permanent position is aimed at highly experienced or semi‑retired diesel technicians who want to stay active in the commercial truck industry. You will lead final inspections to ensure every truck leaves the workshop meeting the highest quality, safety and reliability standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct final quality inspections on all repairs, services and maintenance of commercial trucks.
• Perform diagnostic checks and road tests to confirm vehicle safety and reliability.
• Identify incomplete repairs or poor workmanship and return vehicles to technicians for corrective action.
• Maintain detailed inspection reports and support workshop efficiency by reducing re‑work and customer comebacks.
• Provide technical mentoring and guidance to workshop staff and collaborate with service advisors and foremen.

Required profile

• Qualified Diesel Technician / Diesel Mechanic with Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
• Minimum 10–20 years post‑trade experience in commercial truck workshops, preferably dealership environment.
• Valid Code EC (Code 14) driver’s licence; PDP advantageous.
• Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding capability, with experience using dealer management systems.

Required skills

• Diesel engine diagnostics and repair.
• Use of diagnostic software and OEM systems.
• Dealer Management Systems (DMS) operation.
• Computer literacy for reporting and data entry.
