Scales Technician – Weight Grading System Maintenance

About the role

The Scales Technician will ensure the reliable operation of computer‑based weight grading and shop‑floor weighing systems at our poultry processing plant. You will use diagnostic tools to identify faults, perform repairs, and keep all instrumentation calibrated to industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair computer weight grading systems and associated shop‑floor equipment.
• Verify scales against SANAS standards and conduct regular calibrations.
• Service and program PLCs, sensors, VLTs and other electronic control devices.
• Maintain electronic mass meters throughout the processing plant.
• Liaise with customers for equipment sourcing, quotations, and technical support.
• Lead junior technicians, handymen and assistants in daily tasks.
• Stay updated on new developments in weighing technology and plan project execution.

Required profile

• Minimum N5 qualification in Electronics.
• At least 5 years of experience in a similar maintenance role; poultry industry experience is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Computer literacy.
• Working knowledge of weighing systems and scales.
• PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Experience with sensors and VLTs.
• Maintenance of electronic mass meters.
